4th of July

The 4th never disappoints. Ever!
This year was especially exciting because the night of the 3rd after we watched Hunger Games, there was a CRAZY thunderstorm. It woke all of us up multiple times during the night which is in no way exciting, however we do love a good summer thunderstorm so we weren't too disappointed. Little did we know, thunderstorms the week of the 4th would not be rare. The state of Utah had a thunderstorm for about 6 nights in a row. It made it really nice because the nights would cool off and the days would be clear and nice. Made for a nice change.
So our actually 4th started off with a red, white, and blue breakfast with School House Rock in the background all courtesy of Ethan. Originally he thought he was going to wake up and hang flags around the neighborhood but because of the rain he surprised me and made breakfast instead!
We then meet the Wing gang in Centerville for the parade. I had the most fun helping Holden fight on the other little kids to get a ton of candy. I even was so bold to tell a 9 year old to back off when we were going for the same piece. I guess it would be an understatement to say that I get a little competitive when it comes to free candy.
Awings and Holden
 Ewings and Kelsey
Take two NOT facing the sun
Cousins and everyone seems to be cool with sharing except one...
 I agree with Harper's face Kels :)
 A shot with the parade
 Aunt Han
After the parade we all met at the Manning's for grilled pizza, which I am now convinced is the only way to eat pizza!

We were not making the pizza fast enough
After over eating and a wonderful naps, we headed over to the Snelsons for a Nacho bar and a never ending game of Lighting. I think we all played one game of lightning for 50 min and then people started quitting because we were all getting too tired. After dessert and resting Ethan and I headed over the Holladay fireworks and the whole Nelson crew decided to join us including Grandma Farnsworth! We ran into Dan and Emily too!

I wouldn't say Kelsey liked the fireworks but she didn't cry once so that was a good thing. She wasn't even clingy. She mostly wanted to get down and climb on the grass and stairs. We were fine with letting her do that until some idiot was riding their scooter on the sidewalk and literally almost ran her over. I have never been so close to pushing someone off a motorized vehicle in my whole life. Ethan and I were furious and really scared so unfortunately for Kesley she had to sit in our laps for the rest of the show which made her mad.

All in all it was a fantastic day

Popsicles

We had our first Popsicle and it was such a hit that when she licked away the last lick, she looked at the stick and started crying! Kelsey, you LOVE Popsicle!

Utah

Every blog I have found has the "state food" for Utah to be either Jello or Funeral potatoes. Kinda a pathetic showing in my opinion. After much thought I decided that the best way to represent Utah would be ...

A TRUE family potluck! No assignments, no communication, just a show-up-and-bring-what-sounds-good summer family pot luck. And hey! Jello made the cut

Swimming with Dad

Every time we go swimming Kelsey hates it less and less. She does really well in private pools too because there are not the crowds and it is not as cold. On Friday we went swimming with some friends and she didn't even cry. She got a little nervous going into the water, but did really well. She had a lot of fun with dad too because this was the first time that dad got to join us. It was just a fun way to cool off on a Friday night as a family.

Natural History Museum

Our house gets hot. Out side was hot. Swimming is hot. When it is 105 outside its just hot! On Saturday we did everything in our power to stay out of the house and ultimately to stay cool. We started the day by going to a delicious breakfast at a ma and pop hole in the wall place called Sharon's Cafe. It was delicious and cool.
After breakfast we went to the library and Kelsey was in love. She loves books and we have taken her there before but today it was like it was all brand new. She crawled from shelf to shelf for about 30 mins. It was so cute to watch her and it was early enough that no other little kids were there. Best thing about the library is that the library keeps the air at like 65 and it felt wonderful.

After the library we were going to run some errands but decided to go to the Natural History Museum instead. It was FANTASTIC!!! We had so much fun and Kelsey was so good the whole time. Luckily we brought enough food to tide her over and there were enough things to play with that she was very happy. We spent a good three hours there and seriously had a great time. After the museum we went to say hi to Aunt Hannah and Granpa Wing and then made our way home around 9. It was a great day and we were able to stay very cool the whole time.

Kelsey with the talking Dinosaur

Kelsey with the hand puppets

This is a photosynthesis machine but it had bubbles coming up every 10 seconds and the bubbles were a huge hit.

Poor girl thought we were at the zoo. She kept laughing at the taxidermy wolf like it was a real puppy!

Dome fish tank which was full of bubbles!

Native American rocks, but she didn't really like it as much as we thought. The surface was rough and so it was hard to crawl on. Just walk child!! Just walk!!
My favorite part: Pot Puzzles! These were SO much harder than they looked but I was up for the challenge.

Ethans favorite part: Dinosaur land!

This was an attempt to make it look like the maga Alligator was eating Kelsey's head. We lined it up right but it doesn't really look like anything cool.
More Dino land

Kelsey played in the Dino "paw print" for like 15 min. She loved it

They had this awesome "backyard" section targeted specifically to kids. Kelsey loved the water and all the backyard animals.

Dad is such a trooper! He crawled right into the cave with Kelsey

Crawling out was not as fun, but he is a trooper!
My second favorite part was the gem wall
This is a tree right outside the natural disasters section damaged by a tornado. That whole section was all kinda creepy.

New Mexico

New Mexico was a wonderful meal, green chili enchiladas. They were a hit over all
